Congratulations on your Engagement!

Obviously you want to “click” with your wedding photographer’s personality and love their portrait style, however there are many things you may not consider when hiring the photographer for your big day. Hopefully this information will be helpful for you when interviewing potential photographers. {Christy Blauw was the main photographer for the featured wedding on this post}

Will we get our portraits in digital format? (DVD, CD) In this digital age and everyone participating in social networking sites such as facebook, it is important to be able to share your portraits with friends & family. At Digital Galleria Designs (DGD) you will get all of your finished portraits (cropped and edited) on a DVD for you to upload on your computer. This comes FREE with all of our wedding packages. You can use these images for your computer, emailing, facebook, ect…you even get the copyright release, which means you can print on your own. That said we still definitely recommend ordering display pieces and albums through a professional. We have tested the quality of prolabs vs non and the difference is astounding, from color-to durability…you want the BEST!

Can we see a sample or two of an entire wedding? Photographers clearly display their best work online and in their website galleries. Make sure that you ask to see a couple of complete weddings so you can see the variety that is done at each wedding. Make sure you will be getting the variety that you want and that all of the wedding portraits are to your taste. At DGD we would love to show you our variety at your consultation.

Will you publish our wedding portraits online? Again, so many of us are doing everything online these days…at DGD we publish your portraits online so all of your friends and family members can check them out and even place an order without having to come in to the studio.

 How long will it take to get our images?  How long it takes to get your images will be a clue to how organized a potential photographer will be throughout the total process. (as well as how quick you get call backs/email responses) We at DGD aim to get proofs finished and ready to be picked up within two weeks. Usually, though, we have them done in about a week.

How much are your packages? What is included? It’s important to do your homework when it comes to getting what you want. Make sure you ask plenty of questions and know what is included from hours to extra photographers, even facebook sneak peeks.  Our packages are clearly displayed online for your convenience at: OUR WEBSITEedmg8

How much are “gift” portraits? When considering a wedding photographer, many couples forget about ordering gifts for attendants/friends/family as well as parent albums and other portraits. Avoid being blind-sighted by knowing the prices ahead of time. At DGD all of our prices are stated on our website as well as our information folder…AND if you order all your portraits/albums/gift items within 60 days of your wedding, you qualify for a significant discount!

Do you have a back up photographer? You never know, something could happen to your photographer, a death in the family, car accident, broken foot or a major illness so it’s important to know you are covered. At DGD we have two dedicated wedding photographers as well as 3 additional studio photographers.  Of course it wouldn’t be ideal to not have your hired photographer, however its good peace-of-mind to know if something happens you will have coverage. So far we have never had this happen but if it does, we are ready!

How much experience do you have?   In this day and age everyone is taking photos, from your next-door neighbor to your niece in high school. Technology has made it so almost anyone can snap a few good images and Photoshop them to look great, HOWEVER, experienced photographers will use the best equipment, newest technology and incredible lighting set ups to make your collection stand out. Be sure to ask if your photographer uses additional lighting outside as well as in the church. While “natural light photographers” are great, we know and have learned that we are able to tweak the backgrounds to make a not-so-great-background look like a New York magazine spread! Experience will also make your day go smooth, less-experienced photographers may just go with the flow, stylize less and not “run the day.” Experienced phoedmg3tographers will be kind of bossy to get stuff done thus making the day go smoothly…they will know what they need and they will get it. Wedding days can be hectic so hire the best to know you will get the coverage you want.
